Greetings all,
I have only been with the order for around month. Since begining my studies with the order I have spent much more time playing my guitars and meditating, which is wonderfull! I recently found myself involved with a conversation about gardening, planting schemes and future development. Afterwards, whilst thinking deeply on the subject there was a tugging at my memory and it prompted me to look back through a notebook of (often random) musings to find a note I'd made way back in 2007ish. The note was a simple observation made after a summertime visit to stonehenge on the way back from the pagan-fed conference in Cornwall. The note read simply:
"What will we leave behind?"
I sat under the light of the moon a few nights ago and let my mind wander around this question.
This is the first poem I've written and as such feedback will be very welcome.
So here goes...
What Will We Leave Behind
Many moons ago Albion was a wild place,
Where then you could see natures true face.
Now I look at lifes modern ways
And I've come to see that we have strayed.
For our giant monoliths of steel, glass,
Concrete and marble plainly a farce.
A simple shadow or a mockery
Of the ancient groves that used to be.
Look back now in the mists of time,
See the stones all in a line,
Or perhaps a ring, a cirlce stood
Set within a mighty wood.
But here we are in the cold light of day,
And the stones still stand in the same way.
But now within a protective shell
To allow all passers to see so well,
The remenants of a simpler time.
Those stones there, standing in their line.
But, why dwell on what has come to pass?
Why do we set them up behind protective glass?
Why not take the future in our own hands
And raise up within our lands,
Wonderous new groves and sacred spaces.
Beautifull, green and peacefull places.
Come and plant new rings of trees,
A respite for birds, animals and bees.
Let us raise up new standing stones,
Monuments to nature we can call our own.
Let us strive to leave more behind
Than all this steel and glass entwined,
That in the future there may still be seen,
Sacred places beautifull, pure and green.
Peace and Love
