Carl Sagan's Demon Haunted World.

Very enjoyable read. He has such a nice writing style and as I read it, I can hear his voice.

Last night, I read another couple of chapters after watching two episodes of How The Universe Works. I kept thinking that there has been so many changes since his death and I wonder if he were still alive if he'd have added an episode to Cosmos?
for now,
Rebecca

Just finished reading 'Towers of Midnight' book 13 in the 'Wheel of Time' series by Robert Jordan and, recently, Brandon Sanderson. Absolutely gutted to have finished it, as book 14 won't be out for some time yet!!! :-( Highly recomend the series!
I'm re-reading 'Celtic Myth and Legend' by T.W.Rolleston and it's still a challenging read second time round! Rolleston has an infuriating habbit of referring to something mentioned in a previous work, but failing to say which work or infact what was orriginally said!! There are also a large number of foot notes in latin which, if I didn't have some understanding of the language, would be driving me insane! Appart from that the stories told are wonderful and Rolleston's insight into the Celtic peoples is fascinating. Still bloody hard work though. :???:
Which was first, is it darkness, is it light?

The meaning of trees by Fred Hageneder
My first book on trees that covers the myth, culture and symbol of trees. Pretty good and lots of info, especially on the maple tree which I've been looking for.

I'm switching between "Gods in Everyman" by J.S. Bolen (very inspired archetypal psychology in the footsteps of Jung) and E.Restall-Orr's "Ritual". Both are highly recommended.

Living with Honour - by Emma Restall Orr. amazing book, though I find it slow to get through as it requires a lot of thinking - which is definitely a good thing btw!

"Presence is needed to become aware of the beauty, the majesty, the sacredness of nature. Have you ever gazed up into the infinity of space on a clear night, awestruck by the absolute stillness and inconceivable lastness of it? Have you ever listened, truly listened, to the sound of a mountain stream in the forest?...To become aware of such things, the mind needs to be still. You have to put down for a moment your personal baggage of problems, of past and future, as well as your knowledge; otherwise you will see but not see, hear but not hear." ~ Voices of the Earth, by Clea Danaan.

Got this, love it. :applause:

I'm reading Anne Rice's 'The Witching Hour' and loving it, as well as 'Irish Folk and Fairy Tales' by W.B. Yeats. :cloud9:

And for some light medical reading which conveniently gives me additional fuel for a personal obsession, 'Superbug: the Fatal Menace of MRSA' by Maryn McKenna.

Currently reading Sacred Cauldron by Tadhg MacRossan. Only heard of it recently, but it is the earliest attempt I have found yet in a reconstructionist druidry (or otherwise Celtic faith). Just wondering how far back the idea goes.

Currently reading two books.

"Septimus Heap - Magyk" by Angie Sage and "Earth Magic" by Steven D. Farmer.

Both of them are a very wonderful read, "Earth Magic" is really interesting and "Septimus Heap" is also great, like "Harry Potter", but not a copy or something. A children or young adult books, but who cares.

I believe that it has been republished as 'The Wisdom of Trees' and is available at a reasonable price.

The Wisdom of the Wyrd by Brian Bates. Took me ages to track one down that didn't cost the earth... and it's well worth reading!
The sounds of the winds in the elms
like the strings of a harp being played,
the note of the blackbird that claps
with the wings of delight in the glade.

Presently I am reading, Yellowstone Wolves: A Chronicle of the Animal, the People, and the Politics by Cat Urbigkit. I must admit I am a Wolf advocate, but I thought I should learn more about the reintroduction of wolves into Yellowstone. I am a third of the way through the book and it is packed full of factual information. :wolf:
However, for entertainment I am rereading Moonheart by Charles De Lint. This is my third time reading the book. Each time I read it I find something of value that applies to my life and my struggles to stay on "The Path". I highly recommend it to anyone who likes urban fantasy and inspiration. :-D
"The Way itself is a strengthening of spirit, a growing closer to the balance that governs the world. Progress is slow along the Way, but every step of the journey is like a note in the oldest tune of all. When you have the tune complete, you complete yourself." from Moonheart by Charles De Lint

Hi all

I hsve just finished reading Waterlog by Roger Deakin who was a founder member of Friends of the Earth. He was a wild swimmer and this book tells of his wild swimming expedition through Britain. He describes flora, fauna and old English customs etc in a wonderful way and you feel you are there with him. His other book, written before he died is called Wildwood, a Journey through Trees which is equally wonderful. I think this is nature writing at its best.
