Herbalism - wonderful resource discovered!!!

Postby MiriamSPia » 02 Dec 2010, 15:47

I am not sure whether or not it is like this all over Germany but I have made a wonderful discovery. Around here, the local Germans have stocked the shops with packaged, inexpensive herbal remedies. Often they are in the simple form of a healing infusion [a tea that isn't tea leaf, and isn't 'just tea'. ]. This is noninvasive, inexpenisve, more natural and easier than the processed pills and openly available.

As the Ovate level includes herbalism, I feel that I have come across one of best ways to learn some - not that I want to get sick in order to need the local herbs, but if I just save the box tops, I'll end up with more herbal lore than there is in the Ovate gwers. Pretty cool, huh?

If anyone has any questions, let me know and I'll see if I can share the information to promote this further.

Wow. Do You mean, what the "local Germans" call a "Teeladen" (teashop)? I didn't know it was something German, but I can't remember what kind of tea I have seen in England.

a well- stocked pharmacy or drug store (Apotheke / Drogerie) will have an even greater selection (herbs sold as"Teedrogen" - has nothing to do with "drugs"except for the origin of the word), they can advise you and make up a quantity of any mixture you want to try.

Put it this way.

Peppermint & other mints are good for banishments.

I am saving box tops from the "teas" to cure ailments and also those which are designed to optimize health for the next 3 years as my Ovate herbalism.

Its just stuff in the local grocery store; they treat it like its nothing special at all.

with these teas in the German shops one might well learn which herbs are useful for which illness/inconvenience, but to make sure I would always check it with other ressources, and you cannot rely upon that they really work. Since they are not sold as medicine they often don't have the right amount of ingredients or not the highest quality ingredients.

For smaller ailments they are quite fine though

Check the age of the products too: dried products often lose their active ingredients as time progresses.

That's a good idea. I'll check my area (not Germany, but tea drinking territory nevertheless), and see if I can find something similar. I've been trying to find good references on local flora for medicinal and simply edible purposes, and am new to this forum, so I have a question: is there a collection of resources that forum members can contribute to for regional and topic specific herbalist knowledge and experiences? I think perhaps a wiki or something similar would be perfect, and would allow cross-referencing content from Wikipedia, as well as direct user contribution and updates with full content (like images, and a discussion page linked to the reference material)... does something like this already exist?
