My work inspired on Celtic myth and folklore

Postby Idho » 31 Jul 2011, 09:57

Thought people might be interested in some of my works...
I make (mainly) aquarels and drawings, often using pagan, folklore and mythical themes. The Ogham has always held my fascination and I decided to start a series on them awhile back. So far only Beithe has been finished yet, but I hope to have the whole series done by summer next year. It's all ink on paper, A4 size.

There's also some other works - I personally like my Blodeuwedd, but she's NSFW, so rather than post her here, I'll place her behind a link to my personal website, which also shows a selection of my other works (the website is in Dutch):

Thanks :) They're going to take a while, but I will update this post if new oghams are finished.

Hi Idho,

I am an artist too and it is fantastic to see someone working on spiritual/mythical themes - lovely work! I have started working on new stuff since beginning the course, it can be so inspiring! Good luck with the Ogham pieces - it seems t have really worked, its an excellent picture!

Great work Idfho I particularly like your strong composition and your use of dark and light.
It would be really good if fellow artists on the board could support each other more in the quest to bring the spiritual our in our paintings. I've been trying to do this in my work too over the last couple of years which is mainly watercolours if you would like to have a look. http://www.suerodger.moonfruit.com/
PS moonfruit is a free website if like me you want to build your own website on limited means
Maybe at some point in the future we could find a way to get our work shown together, it's much easier for musicians and poets and authors as they can perform their pieces at camps and such like and make cd's and publish books but I think artists are cinderellas unless they get some lucky break and particularly if they are trying to make some sort of living from it, prints and cards for sale is all I've come up with. The amount of time it takes to learn your craft and then infuse it with your spirituality to produce an image which is then seen and usually ignored in the vast plethora of images in cyberspace can be a bit disheartening. I know I don't do it for money or fame but primarily as communication something of what I've felt or discovered, but of course we do have to keep the material wolf from the door too!
Don't mean to rant but if anyone has any ideas please post.

Lovely artwork Idho, I have also had a look at your website and love the themes and colour of some of the works there. As an artist myself I was really interested in your Bloddeuwedd piece but couldn't find it. Since I started on the course I have also been inspired by myths and legends. I have also tried to portray the Bloddeuwedd story onto canvas and found it a mammoth task and it gave me many sleepless nights before I eventually finished it, hence the interest in your piece.

I am looking forward to seeing more of your Ogaham work.

Bright blessings
