This Forum is dedicated to the Druidic search for the underlying meaning of life, the unifying nature of our common humanity, and our interconnectedness in the search for truth.
Forum rules
This forum is dedicated to the quest of our common humanity, especially in the exploration of the underlying commonalities of the human condition, the similarities between faith systems and philosophies, and the Druidic search for all that unifies rather than divides. This is a public forum, viewable by guests as well as members, and is cataloged by most search engines.
The term "Common Quest" does not mean that ultimately there is one faith system, or one lowest common denominator. It means that we are all trying to do the same thing: find the meaning of our existence in this common humanity that we share.
One rule for discussions here: Honor One Another.

I hadn't really heard of this before, but it makes perfect sense:
The Holocene Calendar is the brainchild of the late Cesare Emiliani. It is anchored on the arbitrary year 10,000 B.C.E., which is considered the start of the Holocene Epoch. This date marks the end of the most recent Ice Age and the beginning of agriculture among Humans. It is a date with significance for the whole Human race, unlike traditional dates such as the mis-calaculated birth of Christ, the founding of Rome, the peace treaty that ended the Thirty Years War Against the Cows, the invention of Velveeta, etc.
The Holocene Calendar allows the entire stretch of Human history to be dated without ever having to count backwards. This is not true with any other calendar currently in use. (Interestingly, Renfield's calendar always counts backwards.)
In the Holocene Calendar, all A.D. dates are found by adding 10,000 to the A.D. year. B.C.E. dates are found by subtracting the B.C.E. year from 10,001.

Agreed it makes sense
- it would take a generation of educational change for it to become accepted I reckon.
Most dear is fire to the sons of men,
most sweet the sight of the sun;
good is health if one can but keep it,
and to live a life without shame. (Havamal 68)

I decided to drop the "2000" during all the millennial hoop-la....I started writing "000" as the date on my cheques and some documents, and the bank doesn't seem to mind me using "31/08/011"...hasn't really caught on yet, though....I should try 12011 and see what happens....

The bank didn't like a cheque dated using the AUC year. However I quite like living in 2764 AUC.
AUC - ab urbe condita - from the founding of the city(Rome) in 753 BCE.

In that case we should start at the big bang. That is a significant event for us mere mortals.

I don't know about you Bart but I've got better things to do in life than right out that many zeros every time I write the date

you can abbreviate for daily use: like 08 08 '11. But officially it would be al lot of nothings.
