Your Favorite Healing Tea?

Postby CedarMist » 04 Feb 2011, 03:19

I have an herbal blend called 'cold season' which apparently helps break up mucus. It's delicious.
I also take licorice for urinary problems and peppermint for digestion.

What are people's favorite tisanes?

I drink mint and sage tea when I feel a cold or sore throat coming on. My favourite herbal tea is made from fresh herbs like fennel, chamile, lemon balm, or sometimes a blend of the herbs growing on my allotment, which I drink fresh sitting amonst my herbs, flowers and trees. Bliss catching rays of sunshine and sipping my herbal tea.....

That sounds wonderful, Merry! Hope Bridhe will break winter's force soon so I can sit outside, too...
The sounds of the winds in the elms
like the strings of a harp being played,
the note of the blackbird that claps
with the wings of delight in the glade.

I also like to utilise the herbs I grow in my garden. Camomile is lovely and calming, but also good to use when cooled for soothing inflamed and itchy skin, sunburn or as an eye wash. For menstrual pain or discomfort I use raspberry leaf and sage tea. Mugwort can also be added. As a general tea, lemon balm or nettle is nice. Any of the mint teas are great for getting going in the mornings. I also quite like to use fresh chervil leaves. Any left in the pot I use as a skin cleanser when cooled.
I like to use ginger for any colds or stomach upsets, although I have to buy the ginger for that.

I also like any mix with ginger and spices in it for stuffy noses and such, yogi tea for example. add some honey for the soul.
And fennel in mixes for the stomach.

I have the privilege to have a small garden now and I immediately proceded to grow lemon balm and mint.

something else I am growing is greek mountain tea. it is lemony in taste, very nice. but my plant is still small, so I had maybe 5 pots this year. Lucky it is perennial.

Besides a few herbs from my own small garden (mostly sage - a little plant I got from my soul friend in southern France), I usually buy some teas from organic farming. I got a really nice mixture of anise, fennel and caraway. Depending on how I feel and the time of the day I also drink peppermint, St Johns wort, chamomile and lime. And for healthy reasons hawthorn and mistletoe. Drinking tea is a true moment of relaxation to me, almost like a ritual or meditation.

I drink blueberry tea with honey, when I get a sore throat. It's very soothing and if I drink enough of the tea early enough in the process, it often fights back infections.

I like a cup of tea made out of "mountain cranberries" with honey if I struggle with coughing.

I drink juices of blueberry, mountain cranberries and crowberry all the time and it prevents me from getting sick in winter. I pick the berries myself and I think that all the walks in the woods and the mountains, all the fresh air, is a kind of medicine in itself.

Definitely camomile - preferably from my garden. Sage I prefer to burn - never tried it in a tea - one would use fresh sage I suppose?

Yorkshire tea, 1 pint with milk and no sugar. Served early in the morning in the middle of nowhere. Heals everything that does...

White Tea. It is probably snobbish, but I do love the subtle taste.

Not snobbish Hennie. I like white tea because it has all the properties of Green Tea without that bitter after taste. But the best tea is typhoo in a china cup and saucer with milk and sugar in a quaint cafe when you have just cycled up a cliff in the rain.

I like white & green teas as well but I'm an old fashioned girl who likes black tea the best. My morning ritual is brewing up some strong Irish Breakfast tea with half & half and stevia. Chamomile with honey is great in the evening.
What is typhoo? Clearly I am missing out on something good! :D

It's a brand of tea Susanne that is very common in Britain.

Re Yorkshire Tea, its very strong and dare I say "manly" if tea can have a sex!
I much prefer Rooibos ( red bush ).
For a healing brew these past few mornings for my sore throat I've been having a right old mixture of sage and thyme leaves, half a teaspoon of dried elderberries, a bit of grated ginger, a liquorice yogi tea bag and half a teaspoon of honey all infused together for 15 mins. If I had some lemon I would have added that too.
I've just recently come across yogi tea, its very good but quite expensive but nice for a change when you want a bit of pampering.
Ah well tea break over back to work!
By the way I had a cup of ordinary coffee the other morning I don't usually drink coffee, for 5 to 10 mins my heart was racing and I felt almost drunk - think my body is saying it's not good for me.

Of the 'old man' teas (which my family cruelly have called them for the past decade) Peppermint is my main healing tea - very good for stomach upsets followed by Echinacea.
I'm still not sure if Vervain helps with my SAD tho'.

As Badger Bob says a good strong English breakfast tea is essential but of an evening, like Skydove, I prefer Rooibos. I often have the ones flavoured with bergamot (earl-grey) or vanilla. However, Yogi Lime-Mint and Tranquility are high on the list too.
