:-) @ Mountainheart.

Yes, and it's muffins round here, but mushy peas and Les Dawson all the way.

This is deeply Northern esotericism... I was brought up in the South (though I have Scottish and Yorkshire roots! amongst others), so it's frozen peas, buns and Terry Garoghan('s last bus to Whitehawk) for me

:-) I can hear your accent. You sound a bit like Michael Barrymore.

My grandma, born and raised in Brighton was sent up to Yorkshire as a child evacuee during the war; she came back saying things like "ecky thump!" and "by 'eck".

This thread has gone off the rails a bit...

Terry Garoghan('s last bus to Whitehawk)

I had to look that up and I'm local, but never listen to local radio...
and as to some Barrymore-esque accent <shudder>.

I'm not sure where my accent is at the moment I think it's mostly reverted to a Queen's english with a mix between the sussex burr with a smattering of sarf lundun.
Although it has been through Ozzie Strine and Texas drawl phases

For a proper Sussex accent listen to 'Ouses 'Ouses 'Ouses here : http://imaginedvillage.com/releases/

Aside the obvious triangle shape, the two symbols mean totally different things to me, one: the AWEN, with three points of inspiration, the rays of past present and future, and the ascending circles of abred, is completely spiritual.
The pyramid is a four sided structure aligned to Orion, and a foundational alignment to astrological aspirations. The use of it to denote the foundational ideas and single overseeing eye points to monotheism and the fact it is printed on a debt note has meaning all it's own: capitalism.

My 2cents anyway

English muffins.

Very popular at coffee places in NA for breakfast...sandwich-style with egg, cheese and often salted pig flesh.

Not to be confused with the muffins.

Or the corollary, muffin tops

And am I missing something? Although the speculation is interesting, what does it have to do with skeptical inquiry? Is anyone claiming these are ancient symbols? Nothing to be skeptical about here, folks...go back to your homes.

I've got a fairly Estuary accent which swings between sarf lundun and the Queen's English, depending on my mood lol. Might have traces of Sussex, but I haven't noticed. I do come from London-by-Sea, Brighton - well, Hove actually.

Used to know a couple of old gentlemen with proper Sussex accents, but it's not something I've heard in younger generations.

Always good to see an old joke blinking in the light of day

I still come across the occasional old feller with a Sussex accent but like you, I think it's pretty much died out now.
We're still keeping a couple of dialect words alive though.

Ahh Stoolball - the root of baseball

The other main one is bostal, the steep paths / roads that go over the Downs, and fret, as in sea-fret the coastal fogs that appear particularly in summer.

The first time I walked around London it was really weird, it was all too flat! Had to walk up and down the subway stairs a few times to feel normal lol :D

*wants a cool accent/local slang too!*

I live in the most un-accented part of the world, I don't even get a Brooklyn accent or a southern drawl-do Pacific North-westerners have anything special? Other than calling a vase v-ay-s instead of v-aa-z.

*feels so left out*

There seems to be a "sweet spot" in the center of North America that has little or no accent...everyone from there sounds like a CNN news anchor. I am totally unaware of my Eastern Canadian accent until I enter the US and Americans laugh heartily at me in corner stores. "Y'all gotta here this...say 'house' again..."

Here is one..do you say "roooohf" or "ruf" ?

For 'roof' (like the top of a house?) roooooohf

(unless I've had a couple beers-then it would be ruff)
