Today, Iv'e learnt how good it is to just offer some people a smile, a hand or a gift without even thinking about something else than a smile in return.

Seems obvious I know.

Spirit has a sense of humour. I've just looked up the meaning of the name Rex and it means King. Rexes on the riverbank..... more to come perhaps...

Spirit moves in mysterious ways. My younger daughter has just come back from school with a sad tale about a little old lady approaching her and other groups of youths outside school at lunchtime. She started off with saying "Can I say something to you" So they all stopped and said "OK" and she said "God bless you" so they said "thank you and also to you". And then she said I can see you are nice people and I would like you all to come to the harvest festival at the church. And you will get a big hug and a warm welcome and some tea and cake. And please come because there are no young people in church anymore" The church is in one of the surrounding villages apparently.
So I said to my daughter how were people reacting to that and she said they were talking to her and thought she was brave to approach teenagers on her own and we felt sorry for her because she really must want young people to go to church.
I could have cried.

You've got a way with words, Angelique. I was gripped for a minute, then. An opportunity for some community building, I wonder?

I tend to grip people for a minute and then I just bore the pants off them. Community building would be good, but I am doubtful on this occasion. The follow on conversation from me was "Is anybody going to go to the church she invited you to?"
The response from my daughter was "no I don't think so, no-one goes to church anymore and you can't force people to believe things can you?"
I have never imposed my beliefs upon my children, they have witnessed much of my spiritual life and we talk a great deal about serious issues, but they have their own minds.
But it is true there does seem to be an abscence of youth 12-20 year olds in nearly every church that I have attended. Even Catholic ones where the indoctrination is at school and home, kids get to a certain age and do their own thing. Whether they will come back at a later date, I don't know. I am very doubtful.

Yeah, me too.

Aah, you never know. Loads of people get put off spirituality when they're younger then suddenly see the benefit later on. :)

And now, back to the topic.

What I learnt today is... Oak trees are the answer.

I learned to today, from the local newspaper,( because I am looking for work,I don't usually buy newspapers anymore) , that over a hundred disgruntled Roman Catholics turned up for the parish meeting last week. Which was lively by all accounts, because the new Priest has said that they have to close the Catholic social club, due to lack of funds. :-(
Sorry priests, I know you do your best, but what a difference, a hundered for the closure of the Paddy club and what was it last year for the Justice and Peace meeting? And what is that other popular word used in conjunction with Justice and Peace, yep, integrity! :gulp:
The members of two Catholic Churches and big parishes combined into one Justice and Peace meeting here, big parishes, and how many turned up? The sum total I remember being reported was approximately 14 people and 7 of those were clergy. It just about says it all.
This won't interest anybody else here, but it has interested me. :)

Had a really funny day today things going right and wrong in equal measure a day of setbacks and opportunities.
In one instance I was feeling really happy earlier on today, I had been proved right about something when I was shouldered out of the way by a person who thought she knew the best thing to do and initially ignored all advice. Then that person had to change her course of action because I challenged her action instead of allowing her to have her way. I was feeling quite pleased with myself. Later on this afternoon I met that person again and she told me dreadful news about a young man of 30 we both know who had died suddenly who we both knew from being a young child. Grief united us and broke down our antagonisms which shouldn't really have there in the first place.

Today I learned that it is much much better to speak with someone in person or on the phone rather than texting and e-mailing when everything is open to interpretation. Non-verbal interpretation is potentially dangerous as the most innocent of things can be misconstrued, even seen as slightly suspicious or even sinister in some cases. But then you realise that it was all just one big joke. :) titter titter...

Today I learned that I really need to think before I let my emotions take control. When people are sick they can say some really mean things. Still, before I run with my "tail between my legs" I need to consider the source and what they are going through before I get angry and self-centered.

I find that it's incredibly easy to feel over-whelmed by feelings of frustration and helplessness at how the world around us is neglected and abused. However, I learned today that there are always pockets of beauty to be thankful for; although we should not forget about the damage done to our environment and strive to change it, it is important to not let negativity blind us to that which nature has to inspire joy in us.

Looking at the recent news, it looks as though things are hotting up climate wise. Flash floods in Spain, I bet people who have holiday villas there are concerned. Then there are the earthquakes in Turkey. Someone was saying to me yesterday that this is the pivotal week,Friday, in particular, in the Mayan calendar, and after that it is all downhill. I don't know what to make of it really.

I reminded that even small chunks of wisdom can lead to deep connecting, and growth. I'm reminded that sometimes this slower process can be preferable to other speeds.

I like to think of myself as an athiest sceptic living in an existence governed by clockwork Laws of science; I find myself ignoring the passive pointers the universe gives me; until I practically get a slap round the face in the form of a scarily accurate rendition of my partner's horoscope featuring in today's page of a small cat calendar on a shared desk at work.
Which I don't often need to sit at.
And which has never shown any horoscope pages before.
On the day we had a major argument in the morning.
Refering to things mentioned in aforementioned argument.
I don't even hold any faith in Astrology!

Sometimes it honestly feels like the universe is spying on me!

Ooh, this has cropped up in my thinking quite often; Spiral Growth, where a lot of ground has to be covered to get a tiny distance on from where you first started. Short cuts are never the quickest route!

Some days I learn something new

Some days I forget something that I've learned

Some days I remember something I've forgotten.

Over the past few days I've been reminded that I'm responsable - that is I am able to choose my response to any given situation I am faced with.

I can choose an instinctive response, or I can choose an intuitive response.

I can choose a reactive response, or I can choose a creative response. The difference between reactive and creative is just how you "C" it ...

Back in the mists of time, when every day was about survival, and life threatening situations abounded, our responses were instinctive and reactive. Our choices were fight or flight. Nowadays the situations we face are rarely life threatening, and so we have a little more time to evaluate the situation before choosing our response. Do we make a snap judgement on what we believe we see, or hear and react accordingly, or do we take a little more time to assess the situation, and respond creatively ?

Every day I learn, or remember, that there is always something new for me to learn, or remember. Every situation offers me an opportunity to learn and grow, and how I respond to the situation says a great deal about who I am choosing to be.

Maybe I should have put more emphasis on the "student" and less on the "post" :duck:

For me the graduation occurred when I realised how little I really understood, and how little I really needed to understand ... but I'm still studying ....

Recently it feels like I end the day knowing even less than I did at the beginning. :(
