I've made some new jewellery

Postby cornflower » 28 Oct 2011, 12:56

I'm pretty happy with them, overall.. in the process of making a pendant to match the classic earrings.. the pierced work on the back has been giving me some trouble because it's more complicated than what I normally do.. trying out a new technique. I'll post some pic when I'm done and update this thread. I'm also working on a couple of leaf pendants too. The leaf pendants have smokey quarts points set into the "stalk"... the more compass looking pendant has garnets set into the 4 points.

They do look wonderful, and the finish gives an 'ancient artefact' look to them. Keep up the good work! :D

Thanks so much for your encouragement, folks! It's always a bit nerve-wracking letting the "kids" out of the workshop... LOL

I'm in the process of making a pendant that matches the earrings.. it's not going so well.. giving it a rest for a few days before I have another crack at it.

Lily - these are hollow metal clay forms, hand burnished, hand-polished and oxidized. Actually.. no electricity was used in my creation process at all.. I like to use the ancient metalwork techniques and cut out the modern electric short cuts as much as possible. I think it gives my items an ancient feel to them that can't be replicated with power tools. (Obviously metal clay is a bit of a newy.. but I will be learning fabrication at some stage so hopefully I can get everything "authentically" old. LOL) Oh.. there are torch fired too.. no kiln. :)
