Happy writing to you, too Julia, sorry I didn't notice your post til just now.

Bracken: congratulations! That is wonderful, I hope that you get the most perfect job for you.

But, that doesn't mean you can't write! LOL It just makes it challenging to keep the commitment.

I've got a little more to write tonight to keep pace, but I have beaten the wc for each day, so that makes me happy.

I just want the story to have a nice steady pace. I tend to get all bogged down and wordy. But, on the other hand, you can't edit what you've never written down!

Hope everyone is enjoying the chance to indulge the inner bard!

Bracken, congratulations on not one but two job offers. To slow you down and prevent you from meeting your word count, I would love to hear more the the details if you could PM me.

I'm still finding logging on to the NaNoWriMo site a strange and mysterious process. I've had to reset my password because the site's stopped remembering it for some reason, now I've got a page saying 'access denied' for resetting my password, but for another reason I appear to be logged in.

I managed to slip through the firewall long enough last night to set up a Wordpress account for the event. You can find the address under my forum avatar -----> .
What's your word count so far? Mine's 5,000 - the best start I've had in the three years I've tried.

i'm up to 7125 words. . i'm working to a fairly firm schedule, at least six hundred words an hour with half hour breaks for three sittings between 7.30am and 12ish. it was harder today for some reason - could get it flowing until the last session - then i made up for lost time. hard work but exhilarating!

Just wanted to let you know that the gal (name escapes me right now)that seems to be in charge of the website hasn't started yet, and she has an awesome pep talk on the site. I'm glad to hear about everyone's work. So far I have achieved my goal of three pages a day. I'm not an official NaNoWriMo writer since I'm literally putting pen to paper and trying to illustrate each page. Therefore, I am a NonNaNoWriMo (see? it looks even fancier). I will post a picture soon to show you what I am doing! If I write three pages a day every single day I will fill an entire Moleskine this month. Looking at my planner I see that it won't be possible, so unless I write more than three pages when I get the opportunity I may have to finish in December. In any case it's creativity month!

It's not worth it, what you're doing is crap. I hope no one will find my notebooks or they will laugh at me. I should be doing more urgent things like real work. This won't lead me anywhere. I am a failed human being.

Yes Kima, I get those feelings too. They're okay if you're looking back at a piece which is more than a couple of years old, but it's trying when it's over a piece you've just written/are writing/are about to start.

I'm not sure where your doubts lie, but I have quite a formal style and yet despite this, my immaturity blazes through, particularly when I allow characters to speak. I have yet to reconcile these two extremes and until I do, I won't be getting published/winning any writing competitions based on quality, not quantity.

But I still have fun.

that's because you've got such high standards. it's great to expect a lot of ourselves, but you can't play a piano concerto until you really know your instrument and your music. yet people expect writers to dash off a first novel and either succeed immediately or feel incompetent even silly for trying at all. that's not reasonable, so don't make yourself feel unworthy just because you don't come up to your own high standards first time. i hardly ever feel like that anymore. i know i always try to do my best and it's never my fault if i can't. it's easy to be reasonable with yourself about things like that.

It doesn't help that as an academic my job is to evaluate other people's writing! But it's a good exercise to allow myself to venture on the other side every now and then.

Last night at 2:30 I made it to 10,000 words. I have to be at work for 8:30 today. Whoops. And I can tell you right now eactly which day of writing I'll be deleting come the editing phase. Certainly was a 'quantity over quality' day yesterday.

I'm grinding out the words today like I'm carving them from stone. Never had this much trouble just 4 days into nano.

Hopefully this will get better.

Well, I've gotta really write hard tonight! Spent most of the day shopping the newly published work around.

The Excellent news is that it is now on the shelves of five metaphysical shops here in Denver. I am so happy. I'm also honored that these shopkeepers will spend some precious shelf space on a self published local author.

I wrote about the shops in my story, and I feel like they are an important part of making connections in our community.

I feel really grateful tonight.

well, i've passed the 10,000 word mark, and i'm ahead of schedule, but i'm finding the going hard right now - i mean it's a very fraught exercise, writing your heart out for a month. full on. i even loaded jewel quest to absorb some of the energy it generates. it's better that gibbering in corners
but fun, yeah, and i'll catch my second wind in a little while and dive back in again. yesterday i did only 1479 words, less than my personal goal of 2000 words, and a bit less than the 1667 ave, but more than my minimum, which i've sort of set at a 1000 words, so that's okay. today i'm taking it easy. i've only done 111 words and my mind keeps wandering...
