Reyna, did you ever have any luck finding a group? I've just signed up for the Bard course, and in the first packet the "Summer 2011 list of Groves and Seed-Groups" booklet listed a "Willamette Valley Seedgroup". While they're a little too far south for me (I'm in Portland), I sent them an email requesting info, but I seem to have caught the organizer in the middle of moving from Woodburn to Salem, so I'm waiting to here back..

I've already announced this in the members-only forum, but wanted to repeat it here for folks who haven't joined OBOD yet and are curious about any local activity.

I'm trying to put together a new OBOD seedgroup for the Portland Oregon USA area. Visitors curious about OBOD are welcomed to attend. The name of the group is the Multnomah Illahee SeedGroup.

"Illahee" comes from the Chinook Jargon word for "Country", "Land", or "Home". Chinook Jargon developed as a pidgin trade language in the Pacific Northwest of USA and Canada in the 1800's, as a way of supporting communications between the various Native American tribes of the region and the French and English speaking fur traders. It includes a mix of words from French, English, and the various tribes, especially the Chinook, who had an extensive trade network in the region. It's of personal significance to me as my great-grandfather used it to communicate with the Quinault tribe as an early settler on the Olympic Peninsula up in Washington State.

The Multnomah were a tribe of the Chinook based in what would eventually become Portland, Oregon. "Multnomah" has become a common place name for the area, including Multnomah County which includes Portland, and the spectacular Multnomah Falls located east in the Columbia River Gorge.

So the name of the SeedGroup means "Land of the Multnomahs", acknowledging the Land's original residents, and recognizing Chinook Jargon as a bridge between them and the Land's later settlers.

Is there anyone near the Utah Arizona border? around the I-15 area i.e. St. George, Ceder City, Hurricane, Colorado City, Kanab etc.? If so it would greatly, yet, pleasantly surprise me.
