Are you an OBOD Druid, or another Druid, or a Druid at all?

This Forum is dedicated to the Druidic search for the underlying meaning of life, the unifying nature of our common humanity, and our interconnectedness in the search for truth.
Forum rules
This forum is dedicated to the quest of our common humanity, especially in the exploration of the underlying commonalities of the human condition, the similarities between faith systems and philosophies, and the Druidic search for all that unifies rather than divides. This is a public forum, viewable by guests as well as members, and is cataloged by most search engines.

The term "Common Quest" does not mean that ultimately there is one faith system, or one lowest common denominator. It means that we are all trying to do the same thing: find the meaning of our existence in this common humanity that we share.

One rule for discussions here: Honor One Another.

So, after letting this run for over a year we have quite a following and some surprising numbers all-in-all...
I think seeing these numbers just means that quite a few people consider themselves a Druid alright, but there is much room for what exactly that might mean to every individual.

...and yes DJ, I let everyone select as many of the categories as possible since there are some of us that have completed the training programs (such as they are) in other regimens besides the OBOD.

Interesting results indeed....

I think it is illuminating to see how few votes there are, after a year...161, but these include some doubles or triples, so maybe 100+/- in all? There really aren't very many of us...and we tend to keep schisming into smaller groups..."Nobody can call themselves a Druid except me and you, and I'm not sure about you." OBOD's "big tent" approach may be annoying for those seeking doctrinal purity, but it is the only way to foster some sort of sense of community...there just ain't enough boots on the ground! And OBOD charges $$...I think a "vaguely druid" group that one could join for free would do quite well. As soon as you start making conditions..."Lugh isn't a sun god!"...it just becomes you and your cat. (and the cat isn't sure about you. :selene: )

I agree completely DJ....
That was part of what honestly astounded me... the small-ish numbers

I am putting together a discussion for a group of local Pagan-Heathen types that I am calling
"Pagan Orthodoxy and Dogma" (POD) and that issue of exclusivity is exactly what I am going to be talking about.

There is just too much "My Druid staff is bigger than yours", and "Your Book shelf has all the wrong books" going on these days

and the cat isn't sure about you :applause:

I can agree DJ,
One of the often missed things about druidism is...
That is isn't the goal to become "a" druid. It is to become yourself. In this I mean having a self identity, one that is unique and vital.

That can be many things, and in this a way from dogma...far away.
