Sitting at the Harp

Postby worldmusicharp » 05 Dec 2011, 03:32

I just want to share this to all harp lovers. Hope this helps. :)

Meet the harp: Create a pyramid between the harp and your upper body.A straight edge chair encourages staying securely in position without torquing. Right angle legs add stability.

Bring your harp straight onto your shoulder, head with ear close to sound board. Use the natural shape of your arms and hands, as if they were hanging relaxed by your sides.

Engage your back to allow your arms to float up: this brings strength and stamina.

I would add just one change...don't bring the harp into you (especially if you have a large or heavy harp). Instead, find it's balance point and move into the harp so that it's weight is not on your shoulder. You can also support it a bit with your knees as well. I mention this so that no one is eventually injured by bad body mechanics and the weight of the instrument...not everyone plays a lap or small harp.
