Professional writer, but working up to the full-length novel stage.

I have games, short stories and even lectures on the craft of writing under my belt, but I have yet to finish a novel and get it to either a publisher or an agent...

What games do you write? My partner creates supplemental content for RPGs himself :)

I'm basically interested in setting up some kind of a support group for us bards who want to express themselves through novel and other forms of prose fiction. A critique group or something. Would folks be interested?

Does he? I am a bit green in computer programming and cyber games myself. But years ago,and I am talking many, many years ago. I was an active member of a real life creative writing group, I think I was 18 or 19 years old and joined the library and with my mother. We would have a theme in the writing group, then go off for a week, write something, and then read it to the rest of the group. But because I was shy, I couldn't read in public and would sound like Larry the Lamb, so my mother used to read out my stuff for me.

there is the writers grove, on this board under creative bardic pursuits - scroll down to the bottom of the list. the idea is to share and give and get feedback, but i found it too unwieldy during busy times - like trying to read half a dozen novels at a time while writing one of your own. the feedback was not very insightful coming before one's book is fairly introduced and the 'cyanide sandwich' method of critique got a bit fraught. but the idea of working in with other writers remains very stimulating and exciting for me.
there must be a way to make the writers' grove work - buddy systems, friendly on-topic chat, a brag column, events and notice board, etc, links to our blogs etc - building a sense of community within obod.
did you see the nanowrimo thread on this board in november? several of us were writing during that event giving each other plenty of feedback (though mine wasn't really a novel). so it would be great to incorporate the nanowrimo writings.

I've written lots of poetry and have written a novel, but none have been published yet.

I have created supplimental content for a Shield Game called 5th Cycle. I created a new race, including all of its history and abilities.

I got about 60 pages in on a novel idea, then hit writers block. Other than that, just short stories and poetry for me. Nothing really published that I can recall though.

Hi,

I've got a published novel. It was my first Nanowrimo effort. Since I published it through Create Space I've been doing all the marketing myself.

It's a handicap that I don't have any publication track record to speak of. However, the local metaphysical stores have been very supportive and the local indie book store just accepted it on consignment for 90 days. I've got my fingers crossed that it will garner some sales there.

BBI Media, (the publish Sage Woman and a couple others) agreed to do a review. I sent them a review copy mid-December. I haven't heard back yet.

I'm also hoping to get a review from a local community radio station. But I may have to push for that for a while.

I did have a very successful book signing in November and I've got another one scheduled for two weeks from now. So, I'm hoping that also helps.

Just having it in print is a dream come true.

Blessings,

Tuar Ceatha

Congratulations Tuar_Ceatha, an inspiring story in itself.
I may be taking a leaf from your book, excuse the pun, and have a go myself this year. Well done! :)

I certainly encourage you! I feel that it is a way of exploring the bardic side of the path. It has it's own challenges, depths and honesties.

Peace of the scratching pen to you!

I started what could become a novel, and I want to go on working on it even though it may never be publishable. I write poetry and am getting started with short stories. I need to commit more; there's so little time for creative writing in my life! Unless I practice writing it's pretty clear that I won't go anywhere with this...

I've been writing stories and novels ever since I learned to write. As of late, I've seemed to misplace my writing style (if I ever had one to begin with) and the content of my more recent novels have become...questionable, relative to sanity. (Most of my more serious novels revolve around mythological "god-like" characters transposed into more modern settings. My less serious novels revolve around . . . I don't even know where to begin to explain these . . .)
Never been published (self-published, but I don't count that. ) I have had little-to-no readers save my brother and close friend (I think I fear criticism?)

Sorry, didn't notice your reply to me. I write video games, which means three romance games (1 for PC, 2 for iPhone, all from the same series) and one iPhone game called Dragons' Den.

I'm much prouder of my Steampunk work, even if it is just short fiction and pays much less...
