Thanks Dragonwyst :D

My life was turned upside down last year, however it really turned right side up. LOL.

Sometimes on the spiritual path people change their name for whatever reason. As for me, I didn't expect that I would, but I did.... going back to my maiden name after seperating last year. As well as becoming a sole parent, and moving house back near family again and applying for uni and connecting with old friends who I hadn't seen in years, and sooo much more.

Tis a wonderful gift, Druidry, tends to keep you on your toes in an awesomely good way and somehow brings life into harmony, better than you ever imagined.

Bright Blessings

Dragonwyst,
I am curios as to whether that is a bearded dragon on your profile shot and whether you have an affinity to the asaid reptile?
I had the most marvelous encounter with one this week.

I am :) Not that that's much help, I just started the course :( It would be wonderful to meet some other OBOD people sometime though, I suspect the other members have much wisdom and knowledge to impart.

Hi Steve - that there is an Eastern Water Dragon. I consider them my totem/spirit creature. Here you will find an article I wrote for Serpent Star that gives a little more detail about that. Just scroll down to the The First Full Moon. https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0B9AndY36yPvxMDA1MGNmNjYtNWZmYy00NWQ2LTkzYTItYzYyMTlkYTBhODEz&hl=en&authkey=CITnhtIN&pli=1

Dragonwyst,

Thank you very much for sharing your story :)
I enjoyed and was captivated by your encounter with the water dragons and the meaning that they have taken on in your life.

My encounter was with an eastern bearded dragon.
I am lucky enough to live five minutes drive from a national park. A wonderful playground for an ovate!
I was driving into the forest to do one of my gwers exercises when I must have startled a hawk or kestrel (hard to determine as it flew off so quickly). It was having trouble holding onto its catch, which was of considerable proportions and dropped it from about 20 metres in the air. I saw the creature plummet, so thought I had better investigate.
I got out of the car and walked into the bush and came face to face with a 40cm male bearded dragon (who said real dragon's don't fly in this world! )

I had an ethical dilemma for about five seconds where I was weighing up whether I take pity on the dragon or allow the hawk to enjoy its breakfast. I of course took pity on the dragon as I put it down to fate that I had startled it. It was looking a little shaken, and it fanned its beard out and opened its mouth aggresively. So I simply constructed a quick makeshift shelter with some sticks lying about and went off to do my gwers work.

I went back an hour later and found my new found friend still sitting in his stick shelter. He appeared to have one small drop of blood on the top of his head that was dry, but I was worried about his undercarriage. So I gently picked him up by the tail. No fanning of beards and hissing this time. He was quiet passive and regarded my with much curiosity. I gave him the once over and he looked alright, so I returned him to his stick shelter.

I went back the next day with my daughters to explore and found that he had gone. No sign anywhere and I sensed that he was well and safe.

I still need to do some grove work to contemplate the meaning of all this, and there might be a chance that this could be a totem animal for me. I definatly now have a local resident that I can attribute to a quarter for ceremonies!

So that is my little humble story of my brave knightly encounter with a dragon!

thanks all of you. that was a beautiful exchange. we get the common bearded dragon lizard on wyeruo, just called beardies locally, though some people mistake them for frill-necks which they don't resemble much. they make good pets, riding round on kids' heads like the hawk over horus. according to the women i work with on the inner planes as a shaman, they are one of my dreamings. thanks for the reminder - i should pay more attention to him. we've done corroboree to bring him back to abundance here and persuade him not to leave this planet in despair so he'll be wanting attention from us druids. but we need to approach their dreamings with great sensitivity and not make too many demands just yet. i give light and love to all aborigine kids who are dragon dreaming so that their cosmic soul can draw the dreaming and the spirit survive on our planet for generations to come, and yet they still do well in our increasingly culturally diverse schools and communities. there's always lovely soft magic with lizards for guides.
happy lugnasadh btw :gulp:

Greetings,

I have just recently moved to the Perth area and am wondering if there are any Druid groups or events in the area. If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great!

Blessed Lughnasadh to all,

Latest edition of SerpentStar (OBOD Newsletter for Southern Hemisphere), has been up for a few days, but just realised I didn't post it here. http://serpentstar.wordpress.com

If you subscribe to a print edition, you should receive it tomorrow. My printer is not liking printing Wy's article in the correct page order!

If you want to subscribe to the online version, on the wordpress site, there is a box to put your email address in.

Enjoy!

Hi Elizared,

Welcome to the Aussie thread! I am in Perth. My husband and I have recently begun the Ovate grade. We do have a tiny seedgroup, the Silvereyes, with my sister, but due to her being so busy with young children, and Andrew and I both being sick with Lyme and not much good at night, we have let things lapse a lot. We did intend to meet up with Klandaxa who is also a Perthite, for a picnic at some point but he seems to have dropped off a bit. We do know one guy who has finished the course and tutors a bit and used to run a Grove, but he isn't really practicing, though he did recently do an introductory comunity course down at Albany, so who knows we might get him interested again. :)

I know it can be frustrating being in such an isolated place and wanting to find community. I hope you can find someone. I'm not sure I can offer much due to the aforementioned illness. We are kind of in survival mode around here just now and the cure is a long road. I would love to say come to a seedgroup meeting or meet us somewhere, but I can't guarantee we'd be up for it on the day! Maybe we could manage a cuppa at a cafe? Druids at Dome or something? Pathetic I know!

Hi Bronzie,

Thanks for the reply to my post. Nice to know there are other druids nearby at least.

My gosh I'm so sorry to hear that you have Lyme. My very best friend had it a couple of year's ago but didn't know what it was. Thankfully someone else did and he got treatment in time. Please do take very good care of yourself. It is a potentially life debilitating illness and certainly needs looking after in the closest possible way. When you and Andrew are well again please let me know if you would like to come out for some coffee or something!

Brightest Blessings,
Liz

Hey, Bronzewing and greetings Elizared. Yes, I have fallen off in recent times. My personal life is stressful to say the least. While this should not be an excuse it has hamstrung me somewhat. While I usually keep my personal life to myself I will share this as clarification: I am a primary school teacher (very demanding profession), I have four children one of whom is my step-son(Reece) (Reece, 19, Ronald, nearly 8, Lynda 6, Jordyn nearly 3), my youngest, Jordyn, has DownSyndrome; I have been separated from my wife now for more than six months and about to initiate a divorce; I recently (month or so ago) learned that my wife is pregnant again (her attempt to keep our relationship going) and I have my three kids every second week for the week. While this sounds extremely messy and somewhat devastating, I am both a mentally and emotionally strong person. I can and am coping with these massive changes...as best I can. And while being a druid is absolutely harmonious, true and right for me, I am struggling significantly with finding time to make this the part of my life that it needs to be. However, I know with absolute certainty that this inability to give druidry the time I need to, is only a temporary thing. Once my marriage is dissolved and the ongoing wellfare of my three (sorry, 4) children is met, I will again find the rhythm needed to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Until then I'm afraid that I am limited by the time I have spare. Lastly, I will say this, those of you who I have come to know through this htread, through this way of life, know me more than any other and that in itself is both positive and negative. However, it means I can share these facts about myself without fear of criticism. I will be in a better place sooner rather than later and I will be highly involved in this Aussie community for years to come. Peace to all living things. Klanadaxa.
Peace to all living spirits...

Klandaxa, you do seem very strong but could still do with some of these, I bet. ((HUGS))

Liz, thanks for the good wishes. We unfortunately didn't know what we had and have had it for at least ten years so treating it and the resulting other stuff it has caused is not a short road. Actually hubby is springing back amazingly fast with the occasional steps back and forth. I've now got all sorts of stupid chemical sensitivities that make treatment very tricky so the road is slower for me. Even so I have days where I see flashes of who I was. It will come. I'm glad your friend got seen to and treated early. I wish more people knew about this and could recognise it. Druid types being very outdoorsy are more at risk than many muggles I should think, apart from dog walkers, gardeners and the like.

We are talking about a meet up at a nice beer garden in the hills for a drinkie and chat in the next month or two, so will get back to you about dates once we have a better idea. 14th of april or 5th of May are our provisional dates...

So what's everyone else doing now the autumn weather is getting so nice? I guess all you easterners are still underwater, you poor buggers?

Ok, I was waiting on a lady to get back to me to see which dates she would like as she has to get a lift, but she hasn't got back to me, so lets just run with Sunday the 15th of April at 2pm. We're meeting at the Mundaring Weir Hotel in the beer garden. It might be a bit crowded so look for the table with a blue, black and white tartan cloth spread over it. If we can't get a table we'll spread it on the lawn and sit on it. :) If you can't see it in the highest spot, keep going down the stairs towards the pool as there are more tables downstairs. If it's raining we'll be inside or on the verandahs somewhere. (Yes it's a big place!)

I'm not expecting a huge turnout, as there aren't enough of us in Perth to do that even if we could all come, but do hope to see anyone there who would like to catch up with fellow Perth OBODies. We'll have a drinky and a chinwag. :gulp: :warm: :shake:

Please PM me if you would like more info.
