Ballpoint pen sketches

Postby truthseeker » 16 Feb 2012, 06:49

Recently I've been inspired to take up the pen again. My poetry is passable but only comes with great difficulty (usually comes when I'm on the verge of falling asleep and disappears again on waking  ) so I've gone back to sketching. Lots of ideas in my head lately and sometimes they get a little jumbled but here's some sketches I've worked out. They are just sketches, working out composition and ideas. It's been a couple of years but hopefully they'll only get better! :-) The forum wouldn't let me post the pics directly from photobucket so here are the links.

Yep. They're great. I love the surface texture on the first standing stones, particularly. Love the biro colours. Love everything about them, really.

Thank you Bracken. Unfortunately I'm way out of practice. I chose the pen simply because I wanted something that I was unable to erase and there are errors. One of my biggest problems is overworking and trying to make everything perfect. I'm trying to teach myself to be much more free and allow mistakes and just go with them. I rather enjoyed the whole experience! It was very freeing (is that a word? :-) ) They will never stand the test of time but I suppose in a way that's just perfect!

Yes, I'm sure freeing is a word. :D And I reckon biro is just one of the most unforgiving media going. That's an important part of the art; gives them a quality of, I don't know, dominance or something.

I really like your sketches. The penwork gives a real quality of energy to the pictures. Thanks for showing them.

They're cool, thanks for posting. It's been ages since I drew in ballpoint, which is odd because it does feel nice. :)

hey yeah i had almost forgotten how good biros are. i always keep a set of coloured biro to use when i get the urge, but i seldom use a biro these days so i miss the inspiration. i'll rectify that - get them back into my life. beautiful sketches. thanks for the inspiration.

Truthseeker - I love those sketches. Sometimes you can achieve so much more with simple line rather than over working - I overwork far too easily so I love drawing! Beautiful work!
