TREE IDENTIFICATION

Blessings to you all,

I am looking for a good book on tree identification - bark, leaf, buds,....something clear and simple designed for a beginner that ideally I could carry along when walking in the woods....to deepen my knowledge, understanding and appreciation of trees....

Would anyone be able to recommend sthing?

I don't know where you are but in the UK the Woodland Trust have a Leaf identification swatch book. You can find them under woodlandtrust.org.uk. Hope this may help.

Thank you Blythe, I will definitely look into it. I am based in London, so I can defintiely identify the London plane tree! But trying to expand my horizons....

There is a book out there called 'out of the woods' not great on pictures bu t a great read and points out some really easy and obvious features to spot different trees.

If you have a smart phone there are also a bunch of good tree/plant/animal identification apps out there. I have several and they are quite good (for the US though) & even though I love the feel of a book in my hands it's very nice to have it all in a small phone that fits in your pocket when you're out trekking in the wild
