Luchtaine?

Postby MPutnam » 17 Apr 2012, 03:16

I've been doing some new research on celtic deities in an attempt to build my knowledge and find a god to help keep me safe while working with carpentry. I came across the name Luchtaine as a descendant of the Tuatha de Dannan and I'm quite interested in learning more about him. I know that he is the patron of woodworking and wheel making and is the brother of Gofannon and son of Brighid.
Does anyone know more about him or his myths?

Well, if we knew who he was, he wouldn't be Merlin, now would he?

I don't think there's much about apart from mentioning his name a couple of times.
e.g.http://www.sacred-texts.com/neu/celt/cml/cml11.htm

However, he is part of a triune of Gods which means it might be worth looking at the Lugus (sometimes depicted with 3 faces) and thus also Lugh / Llew.

good is health if one can but keep it,
and to live a life without shame. (Havamal 68)

Thank you DaRC!
I wonder, he is often listed as one of Bighid's three sons (Luchtaine, Credhne, and Gofannon) and the three are in turn called the Tri' De'e Da'na, maybe as a triple god? Just a thought, maybe something to be meditated upon
