I like the expression "‘adorned’ perception of reality"

"We analyse the subjective reports of four synaesthetes who experience colours in response to human faces and figures. These reports are compared with descriptions of alleged auric phenomena found in the literature and with claims made by experts in esoteric spheres. The discrepancies found suggest that both phenomena are phenomenologically and behaviourally dissimilar."

4 synaesthetes? Compared with descriptions found in literature? Really?
Oh... wait. Look at that last sentence. They seem dissimilar? That's the complete opposite to the news!

Yeah, I know... here is The Skeptical Druid. But the news is just plain wrong, isn't it?

Thanks for the links, Yvonne. The Psypost headline is baffling. The Science Direct abstract simply says the description of synaesthesic and auric experience in the study was 'dissimilar'. The comment from the neurologist starts with a paragraph of the 'wiring' of the brain, which is to be expected of biologists for whom everything has to be computational. Bad media reporting and bad science.

Bravo Yvonne!
Thank you for investigating a bit further and providing those links.
Bizarre how news can be presented as exactly the opposite huh?
And scary how easily people can be fooled.
Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence
