The meaning of trees book.

Postby RavenMana » 15 May 2012, 16:47

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone here could point me in the direction of a folklore / spiritual / magical meaning book on trees. That has more than the main Ogham ones listed.

Thank-you,
Caroline, :)

One of my favorite books is "The Meaning of Trees" by Fred Hageneder. It covers a wide variety of trees found worldwide. For each tree he has a section covering practical uses, natural healing & culture, myth & symbolism.
Another great book is "The Wisdom of Trees" by Jane Gifford. This one is set up to follow the Ogham but has a lot of great info in it & is well written (at least I think so  )
Happy reading!

Hi Sue,

Thank-you.
I've just ordered "The Meaning of Trees" by Fred Hageneder. :)
I may get the other one too, but I'll wait and see how I get on with this one first.

Blessings to you,
C, xx

Hi Cosmic Ash,

Thanks for this, I've had a look online and it seems like a lovely book. It may be one for the list.
I'm still waiting for the other one I have on order to arrive. :)

I should be honest really shouldn't I... :)
What I'm after is one that has among others, the meaning of Horse Chestnut.
I've found some info here and there, but not as much as I'd like.
(In a meditation I introduced myself to a guide, and he replied 'Today you will be called Horse Chestnut'. He gave me a horse chestnut leaf that I folded in half from tip to stem, and put in my pocket).

My guides seem to be giving me other trees and plants now during meditation and healing, in the same way they did for animals and herbs/oils a while ago. (They still do that too).
As I'm keeping my journal for the Ovate grade I like to add any info related.

Well, I'll be off as it's bed time now.
Night night,
C, :)

Woohoo, Corwen, Amazon.co.uk had a used one of these books for 44p. :) I accidentally bought it... lol.
I've re checked and the cheapest Tree Wisdom is just over £5, so that one will still wait for another day.

Thank-you,
C, xx

Tree Wisdom is a good book, but doesn't contain Horse Chestnut.
A quick google finds some interesting information, but as a later arriver to the UK there doesn't seem to be the same folklore around it as some of the older trees. Could be an opportunity to do your own research project and form your own associations.

Hiya,

The meaning Of Trees book arrived today. (I love my postman, he makes books happen... lol).
It's a really lovely glossy book, with great pictures and lots of trees listed. Including Horse Chestnut. :)

Thank-you for all your ideas.
Bright wishes,
C, xx
