The Wicker Man

Postby Blue-Domk » 24 Jun 2012, 00:06

Now to begin with, I have not seen the movies and to be honest, I don't really know much about them. Okay, what I'd like to know is, "What is the symbolic significance of the Wicker Man within today's modern Druidry?" Thanks... :warm:

Wasn't this question asked recently elsewhere on the board?

Indeed, in the Hearthfire: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=40765&p=429444

Blue-Domk, it's very unlikely that you'll get different answers here. It's a small discussion board and everybody is reading and writing everywhere.

I was hoping not, but it's better to try than not. The responses seemed to be directed at the movies, which I'm not interested in. Alas, maybe no one on these forums knows...

For my reply to your question, rather than me re-post here, please re-read the original thread, where I talk about my opinions modern paganism in relation to the film and in relation to history.

I think the fact that you din't specify what you meant by Wicker Man, we all felt obliged to cover all bases. We are not all psychic although some on this board would claim to be so!

As I said on the other thread, the wicker man in the non-cinematographic sense has pretty much no impact on modern Druidry. We don't know for sure whether it was propaganda or truth and since there is nothing we can legally bring into modern Druidry then it has no bearing on any modern Druid tradition that I know of. To put the essence of your question into a different context - what is the symbolism of burning heretics at the stake in modern Christianity?
