Translation Please

Postby greymore » 31 Jul 2012, 19:42

Hi
I recieved this really great t-shirt sporting Ireland Rugby
and on the back it says....

Riamh nar dhruid o spairn Lann

It would be good to know what it says before I wear the shirt.
Can anyone help me? Any sports fans out there??

:idea: ... :shrug: :atlsalm:

Thank You
Greymore

Googletranslate says: I did not ever spairn faction from lamina.

8-)

Spanish? Yo nunca he querido spairn facción de la lámina. (I have never wanted spairn faction from lamina).

French? Je n'ai jamais spairn faction de lamina (I have never spairn factin of lamina).

They weren't enlightening either. Sorry. 8-)

Is there a diacritic in them (a little màrk aböve â vówel)?

Yup, Treegod there are a couple of diacritic. One above the a in nar and one above the o.
spairn=fight
nar=is

Yeah, I got it!

Riamh nar dhruid o spairn Iann

This was the motto of the fightin' 69th first regiment of the
Irish Brigade durning the American civil war.

" Those who never retreated from the clash of spears/lances "

:yay:

I'm wearing the shirt.

Which diacritics: bàckwàrds, fórwárds or one of the others? ^ or ¨? Or something my keyboard doesn't have?

I know in Scottish Gaelic they use àèìòù, though apprently they did use áéíóú, but no longer.

And congratulations on finding the translation. :)
