I have learned today that if you are self-employed and leave your self-assessment tax return until the last minute, because you thought you could just go online on the government gateway site, with your national insurance number to complete it, before the 31st January deadline think again.
Because once you go on government gateway site you will need a whole host of other pin numbers and passwords just to register. First you will need your unique tax reference number which can be found on the reminder letter, and it is not the number at the top or left or right hand side of that letter, it is in the box of the paying in slip, at the bottom. Three attempts to find that. Once you have found that and entered it you will be issued with a once only displayed reference number, it will not ever ever ever be displayed again, so take note of it and keep it safe. Once you enter that number you can then create a unique password of numbers and letters combined. Then you can click next to go to the self- assessment section, whenst you will be asked for your pin number,so you will enter all of the numbers that you found previously, but will find they do not work and you will then read the last section of that section which says. So you don't have a pin number then? No, because the government will send you that pin number to proceed further, through the post and it will be on a letter and it will take between 7 and 14 days. If you phone Inland Revenue because you are panicking and think you may not get the number in time, there is nothing they can do because they cannot give you any pins or reference numbers over the phone. All by letter only, so once you have got those numbers, you can go online again and complete your self-assessment but even online they may not register receipt of it for at least 7-10 days and if they have not recieved by 31st January you will get a penalty charge of £100. So in all the adverts for self-assessment completion, do you think the government could possibly warn people who have not attempted to do online assessment ever before that it is a complicated process and you will at least have needed to register your bloody details well before January? Stress!

"I knows all about folk songs. Hah! You think you're listenin' to a nice song about- about cuckoos and fiddlers and nightingales and whatnot, and then it turns out to be about - about something else entirely. You can't trust folk songs. They always sneak up on you." - E. Weatherwax

The Woman in Black film is ok, a bit of tension, some jumping moments and a fairly predictable outcome. But I was disappointed for the dog.He acted his little paws off, growling at unseen and unheard phenomena, to humans anyway, a warning system and company to boot. But then on the major scene of bog boy emerging from the bog he was there growling and barking until the door was opened by Arthur revealing ghostly muddy footprints and then from that scene onwards the dog disappeared. Did he get dragged into the bog? There was neither sight, sound nor mention of him the next day, he was not on the back seat of the shiny new automobile when his owner went to pick Arthur up from the hauntings and apparently he was not sadly missed or written back into the plot ever again. What's a dog got to do to become a star or household name? Where was the dog? What happened to the dog?

I wouldn't say I learned, but I remembered just how good honey-butter tastes.

Today I learned that if you use deep breathing and focus on retaining your composure you can overcome a stressful situation. :attention: The situation is as follows; stuck in Denver because of weather for two days, got lost and they closed my flight (I was 2 minutes late), and I am supposed to be showing a movie at the library where I work in five hours. Still, I managed to do some deep breathing and a very nice clerk got me booked on the 7pm flight tonight. (We won't talk about the ranting I did over the phone to my husband before I started deep breathing). :stormy: Anyway, the moral of the story is to plan your time according to the situation  . I am still of the opinion that if the "Powers that Be" wanted me to fly they would have given me wings :fly:
Oh well, I have some time to catch up on e-mails, work on my book, and read. What seemed to be a catastrophe has turned into, "A borderline Eleven day"! |-)
Peace to all! :poof:

Planting holly bushes hurts

I also learned I need to spend more time in the garden, and that we need more holly bushes. They'll go nicely with the ivy.
May the long time sun shine upon you,
All love surround you,
And the pure light within you,

I learned that even the people who you think are the most stone cold characters are marshmallows inside and YES THEY DO NEED A HUG; squash is a new favorite food of mine; don't completely rely on your tomtom GPS to get you anywhere because you'll just end up in a run down back alley-way, somewhere, on the other side of town, driving in a circles. :where:

Today I learned that it's time for me to be self employed...If a boss tells you the time off you have "definately got" to go to Oakleaf Camp is only "definitely" available untill HE screws up, over books the centre and tells you all time off is canceled, if he then refuses to re-emburse you the ticket price saying it's not his fault it's a company oversight...if he also tells you that in your "essential work" that weekend is strimming a campsite and cutting down trees on centre, it is DEFINITELY time to work somewhere else... :old:
Which was first, is it darkness, is it light?

Today I learned about Buffalo "Heart Mountain". It is somewhat of a geological enigma. The mountain is actually upside down, that is to say that what should be the bottom layer of limestone is on the top. According to Grant Bull Tail, a very wise old Crow Indian, the mountain is a place to have vision quests. He said it is time to wake up the energy there because it has gone dormant. Another important tidbit of information is that there is evidence that the great medicine wheel was used to track the movements of the sun during summer and winter solstice. I learned all of this at a lecture at the local library. How cool is that? :terra: :wolf: :owlhorn:

I learnt that doing a spelling reform to a language could have been best avoided if I'd been more careful with the morphology of the words in the first place.

In other words, it's painstaking work correcting a dictionary of over 700 words.

I learned that, if I ask nicely, I'm liable to be given even more than what I asked for. A little bit of gratitude brings a whole lot of joy.

I have learned today that I know that I know nothing.

Frustratingly, this is the upteenth time I have went through this phenomenon.

My philosopher's mind wants to get at the origins of the Mind of Gaia. But that always ends in personal frustration. In fact it leads to more fear and confusion.

As a part of the Tao, or Ground of Being, I have to learn (in the near future) to be content as just a small part of the unlimited Ground. Call it Fate or Destiny. But it really makes my ego shrink and crawl into some dark corner.
The fowls of the heavens, and of the beasts whatever is beneath the earth, or upon the earth, and the fishes of the sea, these are they that draw you unto the Divine.

I learned that when a dog wants you to throw a ball and the beds need making, its better to throw the ball. Both the dog and you will be much happier, and you can go on to do the housework with a lighter heart. Sometimes the fun things have to be the priority, because everything else will easily fill your whole day if you let it.

Understanding. I learned that this is what i seek, understanding of myself first, and the world around me next. I learned i yearn to be free of the ties of the "civilized" society, the challenges one faces in our society to live in the norm, to live ones life according to a set plan established by people afraid to fail. I learned i dont want to be afraid to fail, just have to figure out how to jump in the deep end, so to speak.
Anyway, my deep thoughts for the day...

that the phrase: "I met a wiccan today at work." brings a look of repulsion and confusion to his face.
