The Unhewn Dolmen

Postby KeithS » 18 Jan 2013, 12:57

I came across this reference in gwers 32 and it really struck a chord with me. The following is the result, I hope you like it.

I continue my wait
As I have done since the Dawn of Time
Lying here in the Preseli Hills
Protected by a rough overcoat of bluestone dolerite.

I still hear my kin
Their voices travelling through the Earth on which we live.
I must have slept during the Ages of Ice
While my family were carried away.

Their tales tell of strange, noisy creatures chipping away their protective coats
Then hauling their defenceless bodies into a large circle
Mating them together in threes as a collection of quoits
Where they have stood for millenia.

One day I too may be freed
And travel to join my brothers.
But I can wait.
I am rock.
