Hi Dragon
According to the Druid Plant Oracle, Agrimony can ‘dispel sorrow’ by eliminating negative energy from the aura and is used ritually to cleanse the aura and ritual space in much the same way as smudge. The book also says it’s a powerful astringent, tonic and blood cleanser and can aid sleep and be made in to an infusion by ‘
pouring 1 pint of boiling water over 2 teaspoonfuls of chopped leaves and leave to steep for 10 minutes’ which can then be drunk as a tea or used for cleansing. I’ve not tried this myself though, so can’t vouch for its efficacy or effects...
Personally, I’m more familiar with Agrimony as one of the Bach Flower Remedies
http://www.bachcentre.com where its use is indicated for those who hide their troubles behind a smile and put a facade on for others. They may appear to be the life and soul of the party, anything so not to be alone to face their pain. Similar in some ways to the use for sorrow described above, though in the Bach remedy system, there are other remedies that may be more appropriate for helping deal with sorrow, depending on the root of the issue for the individual. The Agrimony Bach remedy is made using the flowers and prepared by the ‘sun’ method. You can see more about how the Bach Centre prepares this and other tinctures here
http://www.bachcentre.com/centre/tincture.htm . This may be a method you could use to prepare yours. As for where to find Agrimony, now is a good time as it’s said to flower at the Summer Solstice. I’ve seen it occasionally on roadside verges in the past, though whether you’ll find it easily up in Scotland I don’t know, as my wildflower identification book says it’s widely distributed in the south of Britain (flowering June-Aug) but is rare in the north...
