Emptyhanded

Postby ShadowCat » 08 Mar 2013, 18:44

With my hands
I took you home

With my hands
I consoled you when you where scared

With my hands
I stroked your velvet fur
Carried you
Cuddled you
Took care of you
For as many years
As my hands can count

And today
With my hands
I helped you cross the rainbow bridge

Now I look at my hands
They are empty
But for a single tear

- - -
Crude, just working with my feelings of having helped one of my petrabbits for over 10 years pass after she had a collapse earlier today. It came to me as I brushed the dirt from burying her from my hands.

I'm so sorry to hear of the crossing of your bunny...never a happy time, but you used beautiful words to express it.

Thank you all!

It's an inevitable part of sharing your life and heart with companions, there will come a time to say goodbye, if not forever, then at least for this life. I was surprised this came out so easily, and yes, it helps, more than I can imagine, to mold grief into words like this. She left me an incredible parting gift: I always struggled to paint/draw things I see in my mind, try as I may. Yet I never considered words until yesterday. Now I realise that words can be my paintbrush, to paint the image I see directly into other peoples minds, to transfer my feelings and ideas. I grew up in an environment were poems were for little girls and wusses. Well, I'm a wuss then.

@Blyth: Is your dog the same little fellow as in you avatar? Cute and beautiful eyes. Soulful....

Wish I could all hug you for real... but this has to do  for now, yet no less heartfelt: thank you all again.

Shadowcat, I'm sorry for your loss and your grief. I have found that the animals we live with come with a purpose, which is usually to teach us something. It blows my mind when I think of a creature coming with such pure love toward us they would spend their life with us, and be reluctant to leave us when it is time. When we have been the recipient of such love and devotion we have an awsome responsibility, which I know you are living up to now. Bless the bunny!

Yes, ShadowCat, the image of Pippa is in my avatar.

Your petrabbit has left you an incredible gift! Painting words - you did indeed paint words into my mind.

Shadowcat, I am so sorry for your loss. I have a little Jersey Wooly rabbit whom I love dearly. It is painful to even think of losing him someday, I can only imagine the pain and loss you feel.

Blessing to you

Rabbits are special pets, gentle yet very much present in everyday life. Give your bun a hug from me, Wynterhawk, and don't dwell on the inevitable, but live life to it's fullest. Your bunny doesn't worry, so why would you...

Thanks all, again

Sorry your bunny crossed over.
Your sentiment is beautiful in your writing.
May your words sooth your heart like a healing balm.

Blessings,
