Moonlight glistens
on rolling waves
pounding endlessly,
gently on the shore.
We sit together on
wooden steps, our feet
submerged in damp,
cool sand.
The wind carries a
chill, even in May
I pull him closer
and take his hand.
Nervously, I turn
a ring on his finger
around and around
and look in blue eyes.
We kiss, two become
one on a lonely beach,
two souls connected
in one moment of time.
For reasons unknown
I have returned to
this far-away place
that is always so near.
Perhaps to taste the
salty air, to watch
ghosts, or to finally
gain closure.
One passing moment of
time, one true love
Both now lost, existing
only in memory.
