Full Moon of Nion report
The full Moon of Nion will be a time to follow up on the plans and dreams of the new Moon, which occurred on February 21st. New Moon featured seven points in Pisces, a sign of watery surrender represented by The Moon card illustrated above. Pisces in the Moon Card is about the evolution of our soul as we leave behind what is safe and familiar, to begin a new and perhaps dangerous journey. We must gain knowledge of ourselves (the dog and wolf) and move past our fear of what others will see and think about us (the towers). We know that the armor of the shelled creature emerging from the pool will not serve us on the evolutionary journey we are about to begin, but we are not quite ready to shed its protection. The Moon in full and crescent splendor looks down on this scene with great concentration. The Moonbeams, which break into the Hebrew letter, Yod, shed lunar light on a scene of darkness, to say we are not alone on our journey.
Neptune had just reentered Pisces and was in close company with the Sun and Moon at the New Moon. The Hanged Man, who can symbolize a whole new way of looking at things, represents Neptune. The new Moon was focused on the Piscean vision of universal love, wisdom and connection. Sun and Moon were sandwiched between Neptune and Pallas Athena to give us a whole new start with this Moon cycle. We can be immersed in the sea of Pisces and Neptune, and emerge with pearls of our own wisdom, if we are willing to apply consciousness to the non verbal messages we may have retrieved.
At the full Moon the Sun is now in opposition to a Virgo Moon, who is much more apt to suggest practical methods of obtaining the goals of the dreamy new Moon. There are still Piscean overtones to the chart with Neptune, Chiron and Pallas Athena is that sign, but the Piscean Sun is now alone and having to explain what that lovely vision of universal love means to a world now waiting for specific answers.
Mars is continuing his journey in reverse motion, which began on the day of the New Moon in Luis. He is also in opposition to the Pisces Sun, whereas at the new Moon he was in opposition to Mercury in the sign of Pisces, asking for answers. The controversy over birth control payments by insurance companies began since the Mars retrograde. As Mars (masculine energy) revisits Virgo (health) territory it has already been through, many women are wondering how did this invasion of male legislators and churchmen return to our bodies and our bedrooms. When Mars goes direct on April 13, we will have the chance to see how far this invasion will go, and as Mars turns direct, we may see another wave of outrageous attacks before Mars hits Libra with the scales of justice brought to bear on this.
Very noticeable in the full Moon chart is a grand trine in Earth signs. Pluto in Capricorn, Mars in Virgo and Jupiter in Taurus make up this perfect triangle. Hopefully this will create some good energy for the planet since that doesn’t seem to be a priority in our capitol. It also points out the lovely conjunction of the two ‘benefics,’ Jupiter and Venus. This lovely couple are in a sextile to Neptune, Chiron and Pallas Athena in Pisces. Jupiter is the ruler of Pisces and Venus is the ruler of Taurus, the sign where the two of them travel together. This might also be an indication that there is movement under the surface in the way of love and universal understanding than meets the eye.
The Sabian Symbol for the Sun of this full Moon is ‘A master instructing his disciple. The transfer of power and knowledge which keeps the original spiritual and creative Impulse of the cycle active and undeviated.’ This is an interesting follow up the new Moon/Sun degree: ‘Petrified tree trunks lie broken on the desert sand. The power to preserve records of their achievements which is inherent in fully matured cultures.’ This Moon cycle is helping us to reconnect to ancient wisdom. The Symbol for the Moon is ‘A swimming race. The stimulation that comes from a group effort toward a spiritual goal.’ More and more groups are organizing to do meditative, and visionary work, which cannot be seen on the outside, but may get us to a tipping point of world peace.
This Moon belongs to the Ash tree, Nion in Irish. The tree was sacred to Poseidon, the Greek god of the seas, just as Neptune, so important in these Pisces charts was for the Romans. Ash is a charm against drowning, perhaps because it is under the kingship of Poseidon/Neptune. It was used for oars and more recently for baseball bats. It is also a tree of rebirth, and we can see how Pisces has been connected to this process. As the winter season prepares to die and make way for spring, and for the beginning of new turn of the astrological cycle, now would be the time to honor this tree.
