Full Moon of Duir July 3, 2012 by Sarah Fuhro

Full Moon of Duir, July 3 at 2:52 pm EDT.

This full Moon will give us a special chance to experience the Uranus/Pluto square together!
Even if the particular degree of this square does not interact with your chart in a highly
significant way, the world around you will resonate with the square’s impact during the moment
of the full Moon. You can dance or shake with the motion reflected. As we watch inner and outer
events, we begin to learn the language of the stars in the way of our ancestors.

The Sun will shine at 12°of Cancer, in tandem with Sirius, the dog star, a sacred star of the
Egyptians and many other cultures. He looks across the sky at the full Moon (12° Capricorn).
We can only see this at the time of sunset, when the full Moon rises as the Sun sets. We
experience the full Moon each month at the level of energy flow, if we become sensitive to what
takes place in our body’s rhythms and responses. The Moon’s close companion at this peak
moment of the Moon’s cycle is Pluto. Pluto is Hades, god of the underworld, the abductor of the
earth’s daughter, Persephone. This combination of Moon and Pluto resonates with the power of
the underworld (Pluto) to challenge our security—to frighten us or to empower us. Pluto rises
from the depths to remind us of what we cannot ignore or deny. The Moon is about our most
basic sense of security, our home, food, and family. When Pluto and Moon combine in a chart,
there is a challenge to that security. It has to be found in new places like the underworld realm
of Pluto. Pluto has the ability to confer power, but not until the basis for that power has been
cleansed and tested. Persephone, known as Kore, the Maiden, was snatched from her mother’s
side to journey into the dark lord’s realm. Only then could she return to Demeter’s kingdom a
goddess and queen in her own right. Since then it is her annual sojourn between the two realms
visible and invisible, which creates the seasons.

This morning I heard a news report about earthquakes recorded in areas of our country where
‘wastewater’ from oil and gas wells are stored. The industry scientist pointed out that these
earthquakes have ‘hurt no one so far’. The geologist interviewed said the consequences of
pouring chemically toxic water deep into the earth remain unknown, but that it makes rocks,
deep within the earth ‘slippery.’ This seems like a good analogy for the Pluto Uranus square,
aligned with the full Moon. Can we deposit what we know is toxic in our one and only home,
the earth--can we shut the lid to our personal box of secrets, without everything becoming
dangerously unstable! The full Moon’s light will reveal Pluto’s darkness to us. The Moon is
sometimes a stand in for the earth in the chart. Pluto reveals through a dark light, the Sun in
Moon’s sign of Cancer has his bright summer light, and the full Moon has her mysterious lunar
light to reveal what we miss in daylight.

Uranus, planet of surprises, shocks, revolution, makes a square to Sun, Moon and Pluto. This
astrological triangle, a T-Square denotes tremendous tension between the planets involved.
Uranus sits with the asteroid Pallas Athena. We don’t know if she is in her role as goddess of
holy wisdom or warrior queen. Will she be available to inspire us with the wise use of electric
Uranus; technology, astrology, radical thought? She represents a kind of ancient intelligence we
must access in order to continue to live on earth. Yet she can also represent nationalist or me-me
thinking, which will not further our need to feel kinship with all the inhabitants of the earth.
This combination of electrical energy, Uranus, and Pallas Athena are in trine to Mercury in Leo.
If we all put our bravest and most creative (Leo) thoughts (Mercury) into this mix we may be
able to see what can make of this powerful combination, which demands some sort of very deep
commitment to change. The Uranus Mercury trine is a signal of the unexpected in mental form.
The drive for freedom which Uranus stirs up in the world meets the great truth sayer
Pluto in the this square which will be exact seven times between now and 2015. June 24th will
be the first moment of perfect tension between the two, and the dance of this momentous square
with a full Moon ten days later seems like a showcase of what that square will feel like over the
next few years.

Another set of players is also part of this mix. Neptune and Chiron remain in a loose
combination, a duo, powerful in its effect upon alternative healing. This combination of Neptune
and Chiron can also represent the disintegration of the ‘official’ healing modality which has
become unwieldy, so expensive and lacking in human compassion that it may collapse under its
own weight.

Neptune and Chiron make a sextile to Pluto and Moon, a kind of platform from which
arises a Yod, a triangle of energies with a release point at Mercury. This Yod could suggest that
we are beginning to understand (Mercury) that our bodies (Moon) are not solid (Neptune/Chiron)
but rather a kind of network of light where we experience ourselves in a myriad of forms. From
all of this we may return to the great mystery of Persephone’s journey into and out of the
underworld.

Ceres, the asteroid who represents the earth mother Demeter, has now moved into
Gemini, the sign of communication. She is in conference with Venus and Jupiter, and the south
node of the Moon. All of them are in a square relationship with Neptune and Chiron and sextile
to Uranus and Pallas Athena. This combination of the two benefics, the marker for last eclipse
and Ceres are available to help us heal (Neptune and Chiron) the earth with love and imagination
(Venus and Jupiter). Pluto in Capricorn, so close to the full Moon may be the practical impulse
here. Who is actually doing the work of healing our much neglected and exploited planet? Who
listens to the earth? Who speaks for the earth?

The Duir (Oak) Moon contains the summer solstice, the most Northern point of the Sun’s
journey. The Oak tree, is king of the forest as the Sun is the king in the sky.
The Sabian Symbol for the Sun is: FAMOUS PIANIST GIVING A CONCERT
PERFORMANCE. KEYNOTE: Individual fulfillment in the performing of a social
function to which some prestige is attached.

The Sabian Symbol for the Moon is: A FIRE WORSHIPER MEDITATES ON THE
ULTIMATE REALITIES OF EXISTENCE. KEYNOTE: The subjective quest for
ultimates beyond the interplay of life and death processes.
