New Moon Report (Luis) January 11, 2013 by Sarah Fuhro

The Beauty of a waning Moon rising at dawn!

The waning Moon in Sagittarius was so large and so bright as it rose on the eastern
horizon this morning that I was awestruck! The Moon is in close company with a brilliant
morning star, Venus. Over the next few days Moon and Venus will be in close proximity at
dawn. The two of them tell us of the beauty at the end of the Moon cycle as the Moon moves
ever closer to the Sun to begin her new phase. The new Moon chart for Friday, January 11 will
have a crowd of planets in Capricorn, offering us the power to manifest what feels difficult. Sun
and Moon, Mercury, Pluto, Juno and Venus will be in the earth element, a powerful phalanx of
possibility. If you have a copy of your birth chart, look to see where all this Capricorn energy is
stacked.

Here you will find where you can focus the physical reality of time and space. This is the
theater or action which calls for your responsibility to start or finish a task in the world. It may
also be the place where you will face a challenge to your description of ‘reality.’ When we are
shaken by what we once took as obvious fact turning into quicksand, we have moved into a new
stage of evolution and this might be symbolized by the preponderance of Capricorn this new
Moon.

During this Moon cycle of Luis (Rowan/Mountain Ash) we begin to feel a revitalizing of
the earth. Imbolc, Groundhog’s Day will happen on February 2nd. This festival of pre Christian
Europe honors Bride, the goddess of childbirth, poetry and craftsmanship. The light of the Sun
increases in the Northern Hemisphere. Snow and ice still may cover the ground here in New
England, but green grass begins to flourish beneath the white cover. The Jewish festival of the
blossoming of the almond trees, Tu B’Shevat takes place at the full Moon. We can feel Spring
awakening in our bodies. Luis (Rowan) is a tree of protection and filled with the magic of
Bride. The festival of Imbolc is celebrated with nineteen candles floating on water to celebrate
the Moon’s Metonic cycle. It takes nineteen years for the Sun and Moon to meet at the same
place in the sky on the same date. This rendezvous between the two luminaries is what is
remembered with the 19 candles of Imbolc.
