"Be glad, my merry friends, and let the warm sunlight heat now heart and limb! Cast off these cold rags! Run naked on the grass, while Tom goes a-hunting!"
Tom Bombadil in J.R.R.Tolkien's Lord of the Rings

The articles in this section explore the relationship between the Druid and Naturist ways of life, and provide historical information, archive photographs, quotations and comprehensive links.

Naturists are people who enjoy the sense of freedom and the feeling of closeness to Nature and the elements that they experience when they aren't wearing any clothes.

Naturism as a movement began in Europe in the 1920s as part of the 'Back to Nature' movement. Since that time the practice of Naturism has spread around the world.

Naturism is a philosophy and a way of life that has historical links with modern Druidry, and that fits perfectly with the Druid understanding of life - but you don't have to be a Naturist to be a Druid! There is nothing in Druidry that requires nudity, and one of the fundamental principles of the Druid way is that you should never feel that you have to do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. If Naturism isn't for you that's fine!

Naturists believe that having a body is natural, and that being naked is natural too. Recent public opinion polls carried out in the UK and the USA found that over 80% of those polled supported the idea of clothes-free beaches. But if you think it is unnatural or wrong to go skinny-dipping or to have a clothes-free holiday or spiritual retreat then the articles here won't interest you and may even offend you, since they talk about or contain images of nudity. But if you'd like to explore further, please read on. Naturism's central idea is that it is physically, psychologically and socially healthy to spend time naked. Here we add another dimension by suggesting that it can be spiritually healthy too.
