An American Bard Writes....From carriedo12@hotmail.com

Dear OBOD

I am an American and a Bard in the OBOD. I thought the writing in this section should include the thoughts of an American and a Patriot. Below is a letter which I wrote in response to the letter written by Mr. Ansary when it appeared in an internet mailing from Harry Brown the Libertarian candidate for president of the USA. I wrote this letter a few days after Sept. 11

I must admit that I was turned off in a major way by the liberal judgementalism inherent in this letter and in Mr. Brown's position. I whole heartedly support president Bush and before you judge me please try to place yourself in MY position. I could NOT understand the feelings of my parents generation Re: W.W.II and Pearl Harbor until I suffered the same fate. Perhaps all of us need to understand that there may also be a time for war. As Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson pointed out so eloquently; freedom carries a terrible price.

As a Bard and as an American I am willing and able to pay this price.

Randolph Williams, USA

Attachment: Letter of Sunday Sept. 23. 2001 to Freedomwire@Harry Brown.org

Attack Afghanistan? - All that you say is true, But, the time for reason is past.

Our nation can not endure such acts, and the only way to end terrorism is to recognize it for the state sponsored act that it is. To recognize it as War.

I am a libertarian and a man of peace. I was very much aware of the "other side" of the issues leading to Tuesdays attack. In my understanding it all goes back over 50 years to the arbitrary division of Palestine by the British and our subsequent intervention. It all stems from our inability to recognize that we do not have the answers to all the worlds problems. I can see how we repeated the same pattern in Mogadishu. First we fed them then we became participants in their civil war.

I oppose our interventionist ways. But to oppose them I must have the belly. I must be able to step back from my noble efforts to help my fellow man. This means giving food, giving love, advise, technology, medicine, and then standing back. This means that I must recognize that I am helpless in the face of the evils which brother commits against brother. This means that I must stand by helplessly and weep as I watch atrocities and genocide committed. For while I have the might to smite the aggressors I have not the strength to prevail against the ignorance of whole nations. This is a terribly hard thing for me to do as an American, but I shall.

That being said, let me reiterate; the time for reason, for right and wrong, for analyzing and changing our course has passed. We are at War. As a Libertarian I trace my spiritual lineage to Patrick Henry, to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. These men did not shrink one moment from the shedding of blood, nor shall I. If it be my blood that must nourish that Sacred Tree of Liberty then so be it. However if it can be the blood of my enemy, spilled in his own homeland, then so much the better.

And to respond to Mir Tamim Ansary's article I understand that we are not at war with the victims of the bloody regime in power in Afghanistan. However, as I have been held accountable this Tuesday past for the actions of my government, so must all people take responsibility for the actions of their nations. Please Mr. Ansary understand that we do not hate your people, nor shall we seek to destroy them. May God will that we can help them to lift themselves to Liberty. For only when all people are free will the Libertarian Philosophy be realized. However, Afaghani's will probably die, as have, and will, Americans. We will grieve for your dead as we do for our own.

Let all Libertarians join of whole heart in this struggle, as have I. Let us be One People, Indivisible, Implacable in our pursuit of Victory.

Let us debate, and bring to the forefront the interventionist causes which contributed to these terrible acts, but, let this be done in it's own good time.

For Tuesday morning the time for reason passed.

May the God of Nature Bless America.

Randolph Williams, Libertarian/Patriot
