On Being an American Druid by Renu Aldrich

Dear friends, Druid Magazine, a new upcoming official OBOD publication for the Americas, will feature articles, opinion pieces, and facilitate discussion on topics of interest to us. The way I envision it, it is a conversation about American Druidry amongst the backdrop of the larger Druid community. In this premier year, it will publish in virtual format three times and be open to any subscriber or author from around the world.

So get involved now before the launch and let the Awen flow! We need contributors to become department editors (editors can choose to write articles themselves as well as moderate incoming submissions), article and op-ed writers (either choosing their own topic or being given one), copyeditors, and designers and layout experts. Don’t see a role that you would like? Have an idea? Let us know! The more this becomes a community effort, the better and more useful it will be for all of us.

Departments that need editors include: *Reviews – multimedia so books, video, audio, blogs, etc. *Ritual Space – seasonal celebrations *Practical Druidry – how do people practice and work with the land *The Natural World – will include herbs and herb lore, kitchen witchery, recipes *Around the Americas – what events and gatherings are being held and what groups and groves are doing *Writing Contest – We will be posing a question or prompt and then will select from among submissions to publish the best or most relevant

While we are open to articles (bylined newsreporting) and op-ed pieces (bylined opinion pieces that still must be fleshed out and somewhat substantiated) on various topics, there are some issues we would like to address: pagan parenting, online spirituality, tutors versus mentors, meaning of divinity, the spiritual use of drugs and sex, reviews of books, videos, tools like tarot cards, etc.

Please use your creativity and join in the conversation! Look out for submission guidelines and a style sheet (i.e., APA style with references as appropriate) coming soon. (When it gets closer to launch, we will send out instructions on how to subscribe.) In the meantime, if you are interested in volunteering to become part of Druid Magazine in one of the roles outlined or if you have any ideas you’d like us to consider, please email me, Renu Aldrich, at editor@druidmagazine.com or druidmagazine@druidry.org.
